There are hundreds of Temples, monasteries and other attractions are there. Lhasa is actually covered with the Geluk pa Tradition. There are 3 main Geluk pa tradition’s schools or monasteries are in Lhasa. Those are Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery & Ganden Monastery. As these three monasteries were founded by the Great Scholar Tsonga pa and his two spiritual sons called Khadrup Je founded the Sera Monastery and Jayang Choe Je founded the Drepung Monastery. Ganden Monastery was founded by the Tsonga pa himself. This tour itinerary will offer you insightful image of Geluk pa school.
Day 01: Arrival in Lhasa Tour
Your arrival in Tibet will be greeted by our Tibetan guide and Tibetan driver by presenting a white scarf (Khada in Tibet) at the Airport or the Train Station. This is a very traditional way of welcoming a friend in Tibet. The Distance from Airport to Lhasa city is about 60km and from the Train station to Lhasa is about 15km. We take the first day easy for acclimatize the altitude. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 02. Lhasa Escorted Tour
After your breakfast at the Hotel, our meet you at the hotel lobby and will escort to visit the Potala Palace, the Winter Palace of the Dalai Lamas. It was built in the 7th Century by the King Songtsan Gampo and later, in 17th Century the palace was extended the building to the present size and then, became the palace of the Dalai Lamas and also used as the Tibetan local administrative center of the Dalai Lama. This palace is the largest and intact group of ancient buildings in Tibet, which is listed in the world heritage. In the afternoon, our guide will take you to visit the Jokhang Temple which is located in the heart of Lhasa city. Jokhang Temple is considered as the holiest temple in Tibet, where there is the image of Buddha Sakyamuni which has the history of 2500 years. It is also the main worshiping place for Tibetans and Buddhist. Overnight in Lhasa
Day 3. Lhasa Escorted Tour
In the morning, we are going to visit the Drepung Monastery. The Drepung Monastery is the largest monastery in Geluk pa school in Autonomous Region of Tibet. During the 17th century the monastery had housed more than 10,000 monks and it was became the palace of Dalai Lama. There are 7 colleges in the monastery and big assembly hall for all the monks. In the afternoon, after the lunch we drive to the Sera Monastery, which was built in the 14th century by the disciple of Tsonga Pa who is the founder of Geluk Pa school or the seat. The most interesting thing to witness in this monastery is the debating of monks. They are debating on the Buddhist philosophy and it is very helpful for the monks to sharpen their mind. The debate will be held from Monday to Saturday from 3:00pm to 5pm, though no debate on Sunday. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 04: Lhasa - Ganden - Drak Yarpa - Lhasa
YDrive to east of Lhasa 16 km to Drak-Yerpa, a meditation hermitage dating back to the 7th century with numbers of cave in which many high abbots and Lamas had meditated through centuries. Drive to Ganden monastery the afternoon, built by Tsongkhapa in 1409. Monastery is founded 60 km away from Lhasa on over 4100 m high Wangpo-ri hill. It is first monastery of Gelug-pa sect. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 5. Departure from Lhasa;
Today is the end of the trip and we highly suggest our travelers to give a short time to fill the evaluation form to improve our quality service for the future. Then, our guide will be waiting at the Hotel lobby and take you to the Airport or Train station accordingly.
